In Yoruba culture, marriage is not just a union between two individuals—it is the coming together of two families. The ceremony begins with an official introduction of the bride's and groom's families, where they each dance in with the closest family and friends, symbolizing the joining of their lineages and establishing a foundation of respect and unity.

Oriki Chant

This is a deeply poetic and celebratory moment where the families’ origins and achievements are praised. The Oríkì chant is a traditional Yoruba form of verbal art that highlights lineage and accomplishments, setting a joyful and reverent tone for the ceremony.

As in the case of the bride who is from Offa kwara state, “Ìyèrù Òkìn” symbolizes prestige, leadership, and beauty, likening Offa to the Òkìn, the royal peacock, known as the king of birds in Yoruba tradition.
